Entry 3: August 19th, 2277

“I woke up early this morning, around nine. I hadn't had that good of a night’s sleep in months; it felt good to be well rested. I headed downstairs and got some water from Gob and headed out to talk to the sheriff. I noticed the man in the suit was gone. I headed outside and seen the sheriff down near the bomb. I remembered I promised to disarm it for him, so I headed down to it. I told Lucas about the man in the suit, who he called Mr. Burke, and he said not to worry about it, and that Burke was going to leave soon enough. I told him I was about to disarm the bomb, and he told the cultists nearby to step away. They really didn't want to, he was the guy with the gun so they listened. I knelt near the bomb away from the water around it and opened up a side compartment near the arming mechanism. The bomb's arming mechanism was very similar to that of a torpedo I messed around with back in Cali, so I had no trouble getting around it. Took me about 10 minutes, but it was done. The sheriff was grateful, he was so grateful he gave me the 500 caps, plus the keys to an empty house here in town. I thanked him and headed to the house. On the way there I passed by a scruffy looking guy that gave me a very angry look; he must not like new people. I unlocked the door to my new place and I was surprised on how nice it was, the old residents must have moved out recently. The place had a bed, a living area a storage area, a bath room, and it even came with its own robotic butler named ‘Wadsworth’. I’ve never had a robot before. He told me I could buy supplies for the house at ‘Craterside Supply’, which was a shop built under the nose of the airplane that made many parts of this town. I left some of my extra ammo in the house and headed to Craterside. Once inside I was greeted by a very energetic store keeper named Moria. She was very excited to see a new face in town. She offered me a job to help her write a ‘Wasteland Survival Guide’, I declined her for now but I may take up the offer after I get the lay of the land. She has some good things for sale. Not a lot in the house decorating department mind you, but I sold some of my 10mm ammo for a Colt M1911, ammo for it and a combat helmet. The 1911 is a sweet gun I had one years ago, but it wore out and I couldn’t find any replacement parts for it. I left the shop and headed down to ‘The Brass Lantern’, a restaurant at the bottom of town across from the bomb. I walked inside and ordered a beer. I spoke to the bartender about the area outside the town. He said that there is really nothing of interest outside, there is an old town to the north called Springvale, but it has been overrun by raiders, an old supermarket to the east which could have supplies I need. He also said the closet place that would have any people that I could trust would be ‘Rivet City’. A settlement built inside an old aircraft carrier from the before the war. It was about a day’s journey to get there. I spent a couple hours there talking to people, nothing really of interest to record. I headed home shortly after 6; I would need to for the trip the market tomorrow.”

Entry 2: August 18th, 2277

“I arrived in Megaton today. I encountered a couple wild dogs and mutated mole rats on the way here. The mole rats seem bigger here than anywhere I've seen before. Megaton looked pretty nice, considering it was made out of old sheets of metal, and what looks like an airplane. When I entered the town I was approached by Sheriff and Mayor Lucas Simms. He seems like a good fellow. He warned me about my rifle, and gave me directions to various parts of the town. He recommended I check out Moriarty's Bar, it had a place I could rest if I could pay. He also told me about the local ’cult'. It seems a bunch of weirdoes made a religion based around that damned bomb in the middle of the town. I'll probably steer clear of those folks. He also told me the bomb isn't as inert as I’ve heard. It could be easily rigged to explode. I offered to disarm it for a 'price'. He offered me 100 caps. I managed persuade him to give me 500. I headed to Moriarty's place, making sure to avoid the irradiated water around the bomb. I headed up to the bar, and when I entered I was shocked to notice a ghoul tending to the bar. This is the first time I've seen one of those freaks working with humans since I left California. I later learned his name was Gob, and he came from a ghoul haven called 'Underworld', located in the D.C. Museum of Natural History. I noticed someone out of place. There was a man sitting in a corner wearing a clean-ish business suit. When I approached him he noticed I wasn't from here, and offered to pay me handsomely if I were to blow up the town. I was disgusted by the offer. Sure this town may look like a piece of crap, not that my old home was much better, but this place was someone’s home. I declined his offer, he seemed upset but I wasn't going to talk to him anymore, I'll have to talk to the Sheriff about this in the morning. I went over to the bar and sat down to order a drink. A woman named Nova came over to me and offered a place to sleep on the upper floor for 100 caps. I accepted the offer paid her and went up to check the accommodations. It seemed good for the night. Well, that’s about it, tomorrow I'm going to see what information I can get about the surrounding area.”

“August 17th, Twenty two seventy, Something I think, I'm not sure now, the clock on my PipBoy has been broken for ages, actually I'm not sure it ever worked to begin with. It is probably almost 100 years old. I just entered the area that used to be the capital of this country. Washington D.C. I've travelled far from The New California Republic, jumping from convoy, to convoy. The last one was an Enclave convoy, I was lucky I wasn't caught; they probably would have killed me right then and there. I need supplies, I'm down to my last bottle of pure water, my M1 Grande needs repairs, and ammo. All I'm stuck with is my 10mm Pistol and combat knife. I’ve heard rumors of a place called 'Megaton' near here. Seems some crazy bastards built a town around an undetonated atomic bomb, idiots. Right now I'm resting inside the cave entrance to some old vault. There was some commotion inside earlier, I heard gun shots and the door started to open and some guy came running out, but he was shot in the back and fell to the ground, I hid in a crevice in the rock wall, and I don’t think anyone saw me. They sealed it back up, and nothing has happened since. The guy who ran out was dead and there was nothing I could do for him, he looked young. Not any older than 20 I'd say. Poor bastard. I had a look at his PipBoy, a newer model then mine but incompatible. I looked over his notes; it seems he was leaving to try and find his father. Someone named James.”
